LCP urge people to remain calm and support Constitution for Truth
In a strong statement amidst the ongoing politican tension, the League of Cities of the Philippines called on the people to adhere to the Constitution and the Rule of Law.
“While there have been indirect allegations against the President, these have not been examined nor proven with strict observance to and compliance with the prosecutorial and judicial proceddings required by our laws. These allegations remain unsubstantiated and lack veracity,” the LCP said.
City mayors stressed that they are one with the people in seeking out the truth and fighting corruption. However, they believe that “there are Constitutional means of ferretting out the truth” and a greater number of people are bound to respect these means. The LCP said it belongs to this “greater number with sobriety and unity”.
Just when the country is onward to progress, city mayors believe the greater number of people cannot afford to lose this economic momentum in exchange of political bickering which has been orchestrated by those behind the attempts to overthrow the government.
“The continued provision of roads, better educational and health services, potable water system, agricultural modernization, housing and other basic services should be the focus of our combined efforts,” LCP added.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena said in a newspaper that the real issues of the local governments are being overshadowed by this ‘circus’ in Metro Manila. “What was affecting the mayors are not the ‘circus’ but the lack of support from the Congress. Local government officials need Congress’s cooperation on many issues close to their heart,” he added.
City mayors added demonstrations which are mainly in Metro Manila do not represent the true voice of the people. “Let us hear the voice of the greater number of People. The Philippines is Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao,” the LCP reiterated.
