LCP and AMA to give full grant to poor
but deserving medicine students

The League of Cities recently inked partnership with AMA School of Medicine in Makati City in providing full scholarship grants to 25 deserving students from the 4 th and 5 th class cities.

AMA, through its “Doktor ng Bayan, Doktor ng Lipunan” project will give each student Php 1 million worth of grant. It will cover the tuition and other fees for the entire medicine program.

As a counterpart, the city will have the option to provide their scholars with cash stipend, book allowance, and/or housing. AMA requires the scholars to render return service to their city and/or to AMA for at least three years after passing the medical board exams.

The Memorandum of Agreement was signed last June 16, 2008 in Mandaluyong City. LCP said it is a good opportunity for both the students and the recipient cities. “It will not only provide great financial assistance to poor but deserving Medicine students but it will also motivate them to study and serve the country in return," said LCP President Mayor Benhur Abalos.
