January 29, 2016 - Tagaytay City

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Andres Bautista shared the latest features and reform initiatives undertaken for the 2016 national elections with city mayors and local officials gathered on Friday, January 29. For the first time, COMELEC will be opening polling precincts in shopping malls given the positive public feedback on mall registrations, and introducing a series of Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates in key cities nationwide. These significant reforms are anchored on the twin objectives of promoting credible elections and ensuring enhanced voter experience.

After his presentation, Commissioner Bautista and the COMELEC Team unveiled the new PCOS machines through a demo set-up with participation from selected city mayors. The demo also served as a consultative process to determine whether or not COMELEC should release voter receipts to ensure accountability and transparency on one hand, and protect the sanctity of votes and prevent rampant vote-buying on the other.

The Commissioner is one of the guests of honor for the Special General Assembly and 57th National Executive Board (NEB) Meeting of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) held at Taal Vista Hotel, Tagaytay City.
