MEMORANDUM

FOR : THE HONORABLE CITY MAYORS

FROM : Atty. Shereen Gail C. Yu-Pamintuan
Executive Director

RE : UN Secretary-General and Clean Air Asia's Request to LCP Member Cities for the 2019 Climate Action Summit

DATE: 11 September 2019

The 2019 Climate Action Summit this 23rd of September will showcase national and local efforts across the globe in responding to the current global climate emergency. With health, wellbeing, and safety as key drivers in accelerating climate change actions, there is increasing demand for urban and climate stakeholders to ensure clean and safe air, cut carbon emissions, and scale up investments on better air quality monitoring.

In view of the League’s ongoing partnership with Clean Air Asia to help cities improve their capacities in air quality management, we are calling all city mayors to solidify their support towards clean and safe air quality by writing a letter of commitment and submitting the same to the Climate Action Summit Team of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG).

To better facilitate this process, Clean Air Asia has drafted the attached template letter which you can adopt, sign, and submit to the UNSG via email at spdcast@un.org and andrea.guerrerogarcia@un.org, with CC to precious.benjamin@cleanairasia.org and league.cities.philippines@gmail.com, on or before 20 September 2019, Friday.

Should you need additional information regarding this initiative, you may visit www.who.int/globalchange/commit. Alternatively, you may contact Dang Espita-Casanova, Senior Air Quality Program Coordinator of Clean Air Asia, at dang.espita@cleanairasia.org.

Thank you very much and we look forward to your utmost support.

Yours truly,

ATTY. SHEREEN GAIL C. YU-PAMINTUAN
Executive Director
