MEMORANDUM

Reference No. (2020-10-51)

FOR :

The Honorable City Mayors

FROM:

The LCP Executive Director

SUBJECT:

Roundtable Consultation on Metropolitan Transport with Clean Air Asia and the International Association of Public Transport

DATE: 22 October 2020

We invite you to an online consultation with Clean Air Asia on 27 October 2020 (Tuesday), from 2:30 to 6:15 p.m., to deepen the conversation on the importance of establishing and reorganizing transport authorities and executives.

Led by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and the project team behind Sustainable Mobility in Metropolitan Regions (SMMR), the consultation is in line with the goal of ensuring that public transport governance in metropolitan cities fosters sustainable urban mobility, reduces transport emissions, and achieves air quality targets.

The meeting will also discuss the creation of Metropolitan Transport Executives (MTEs), a concept that is rather new to ASEAN member states including the Philippines. In other countries, MTEs are agencies that coordinate with various national and local government departments responsible for transport and land-use planning. They have the capacity to steer and coordinate all initiatives by other public actors and private stakeholders to create impact on metropolitan transport systems.

Please refer to the attached invitation letter and tentative meeting agenda from UITP for more information about the online event. Should you or your staff be interested to attend, you may contact Ms. Kathleen Dematera of Clean Air Asia at kathleen.dematera@cleanairasia.org to request for the meeting link and other details about the meeting.

Thank you.

Atty. Shereen Gail C. Yu-Pamintuan
